Jay-Z Tried to Purchase D’Usse from Bacardi for $1.5 Billion After Valuation Fallout

Jay-Z

Newly unveiled court docs show that Jay-Z offered Bacardi $1.5 billion to have full ownership of D’Usse, an offer that the company refused.

This latest revelation has surfaced as the rap mogul battles it out in court with the liquor company. Though it was Jay who first wanted to buy out Bacardi in 2021, he is currently attempting to force the corporation to buy him out of their 50/50 partnership.

Shortly before Jay made the offer, he and Bacardi exchanged valuations of the brand, which showed a massive gap between what they felt Hov’s stake was worth. While Jay had his D’Usse half listed as being worth $2.5 billion, Bacardi thought that it was only worth about $460 million. Seeing the gap only motivated him to buy them out, which didn’t go in his favor. The “Blueprint” rapper believes his long-standing liquor partner is up to some shady business, even wrongfully influencing a third-party appraiser.

Jay originally filed the court order in October, demanding transparency on Bacardi’s side for the deal they’d established in 2012.

An emergency hearing was scheduled for Thursday, December 1st, so new updates are likely to be revealed in the coming days.
