The man accused of fatally shooting two Mississippi Walmart employees and wounding an officer in 2019 was sentenced to death on Friday.
Martez Abram was found guilty Thursday of two counts of capital murder and one count of attempted murder. The jury deliberated for less than an hour.
Abram shot and killed two of his co-workers, 38-year-old Brandon Gales and 40-year-old Anthony Brown, at the Southaven Walmart. He also shot and injured a police officer.
Shortly before the shooting, Abram had a confrontation with a subordinate and was called into the manager’s office and suspended. The manager that issued the suspension was Brown.
On July 30, 2019, Abram returned to the location and shot Brown and Gales. He also started a fire in the store with gasoline he brought into the store in a backpack.
In court, Abram denied having any recollection of the shooting. He told prosecutors he only remembered running into the store and then running back out.
But when shown a video of the shooting, Abram admitted that he was the one shooting.
