Lifetime’s “Surviving R.Kelly” Docuseries Releases Its Trailer For The Final Season [Video]

Lifetime Network announced its “Surviving R. Kelly” documentary series would have another season.

On Wednesday, the network dropped the official trailer for the final chapter of the “Surviving R. Kelly” docuseries. The upcoming season will follow the trials and overall consequences the singer faced in 2019 that resulted in his 30-year prison sentence.

“While millions have read the headlines, the final chapter connects the shocking fine print with unspeakable details never shared with the public, culminating in the verdict heard around the world,” a press release stated.

The season’s first episode will detail Kelly’s ex-girlfriend Azriel Clary’s court testimony. During that time, Azriel confessed that the singer coached her how to lie in her interview with Gayle King. Azriel’s family will also get some screen time and address the intimidation tactics Kelly’s fans used against them.

In addition, the episode will include the aftermath of the shooting threat Kelly’s former manager, Donell Russell, ordered during the 2018 premiere screening of the documentary’s first season.

The documentary’s first season was an essential key that helped bring new charges against Kelly. The documentary was such a crucial aspect to the case that Kelly requested to have jurors at his trial who had not seen the film.

Nevertheless, Kelly was found guilty on nine counts that included racketeering, transporting individuals across state lines for illegal sexual activity, coercion and enticement and the transportation of a minor. The disgraced singer was ultimately sentenced to 30 years in prison but faced another trial shortly after.

In September, a federal jury found Kelly guilty of child pornography charges. The Chicago jury said Kelly was guilty of making videotapes of himself sexually abusing his 14-year-old goddaughter years ago.

The two-part special will air on Lifetime Network on January 2nd and 3rd at 8:00 pm EST.
