Free agent, Tim Tebow was selected in the first round of the 2010 NFL draft by the Denver Broncos. The quarterback played for the New York Jets as well as the New England Patriots, and the Philadelphia Eagles. Since he’s become a free agent while keeping his faith, Tebow has been advising student athletes in high school to “be bigger than sports” by writing a book about handling life’s disappointments. However, Tim Tebow may be able to add a new, very interesting honor to his resume, with a status in the U.S. Capitol.
Florida Senator and former Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio suggested a Tim Tebow statue should replace Confederate General Edmond Kirby Smith in the U.S. Capitol’s National Statuary Hall, according to Fox News. States are allowed two statues in place of honor. However, the memorialized individual has to be dead for at least 10 years as of January 1, 2017, which fortunately Tim Tebow is not.
The Florida committee set prerequisites for this honor which include, the person must be a citizen of Florida and have made “significant contribution(s) to Florida history, economy, culture arts, education infrastructure and/or environment.”
Although, Tebow’s NFL career hasn’t been ideal, the former Gator brought two college Football National Championships to the University of Florida and won the Heisman Trophy in 2007.
According to Fox News, The Florida Division of Historical Recourses will be taking submissions until June 10 and three names will be sent to the 2017 state Legislature.
