Former offensive lineman Uche Nwaneri was found dead Friday. It’s believed he died of an enlarged heart with acute heart failure.
He was 38.
The former Purdue and Jacksonville Jaguars player was at his wife’s home in West Lafayette, Indiana, when he collapsed in a bedroom. Police and paramedics were called to the house, but unfortunately, he couldn’t be saved.
The Tippecanoe County Office of the Coroner told TMZ that the former player’s official cause of death had not been determined. However, an initial preliminary report shows signs of an “enlarged heart with acute heart failure.”
Authorities added that there are no signs of trauma or foul play.
Tony Khan, son of Jags’ owner Shahid, released a statement following the tragic news, saying Nwaneri “forged a strong bond with the Jags fans that’s remained to this day.”
“On behalf of the Jaguars organization and my family, our thoughts are with Uche’s family + friends at this terrible time.”
Nwaneri was chosen to play for the Jags in the 5th round of the 2007 NFL draft. He played with the team until he was released in 2014.
After his career, he started a YouTube channel called “The Observant Lineman” to discuss sports and music with his subscribers.
