Lil Wayne, Missy Elliot, and Dr. Dre will be honored at the Grammys’ second annual Black Music Collective event.
On Wednesday, the Recording Academy announced it would be honoring the Hip-Hop icons for their achievements in the music industry. The three rappers will be receiving the Global Impact Award along with music executive Sylvia Rhone.
“I am so thrilled to honor and celebrate these four giants in the music industry,” Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. said. “Last year’s inaugural event was such a highlight during Grammy week and now with Dre, Missy, Wayne and Sylvia there to pay tribute to this year, it’s definitely going to be another night to remember. I continue to be proud of the work of our Black Music Collective as it’s [a] vital part of what we do here at the academy.”
The Black Music Collective is an advisory group of music industry leaders that find new opportunities for black music. In addition, the group also identifies ways to increase black representation and brings creators and business owners together to build community.
MC Lyte, D-Nice, and black-owned record label LVRN were honored last year at the inaugural ceremony. The 2023 event will take place on February 2nd at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, California.
