Since being found guilty of shooting Megan The Stallion, Tory Lanez says he now regrets not testifying during the trial.
A source told Rolling Stone that the rapper feels “misled” by his trial attorney George Mgdesyan, who prevented him from testifying.
According to reports, Lanez intended to testify, but ultimately his team decided against it.
The rapper was found guilty on all three counts, including assault with a semiautomatic handgun, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. He’s facing 22 years in prison.
If Tory took the stand, the prosecution was prepared to present a plethora of impeachment evidence, including his alleged assault on R&B singer August Alsina and his role in the “CAP” music video, which was supposedly a dig at Megan.
However, Lanez’s new attorney David Kenner, said he couldn’t discuss the apparent “mistakes” but was hopeful about his chances of having his client’s convictions overturned.
“I welcome the addition of Jose Baez to the defense team,” he said, referring to the other new additions added to Tory’s legal team. “It is our collective view that based upon a motion for a new trial, and if necessary, an appeal, we will ultimately be successful in freeing Tory Lanez.”
He added: “There is another side of the story at trial which has yet to be told, and we look forward to doing so.”
