Columbus Short is still in Dallas, TX where he and his “Chris Brown bow tie” appeared on Access Hollywood to discuss his recent Independence Day arrest (amongst other things). On the episode that aired Monday, Short touches briefly on his domestic violence accusations saying , “I’ll take ownership… me and my wife, we’re going through problems – serious problems,” he said. “However, the domestic part of it, I’m not a physically violent man.”
*slow blinks* You mean the same man who broke a man’s nose on a basketball court, then a couple years later got into a bar fight at an engagement dinner isn’t physically violent?
He also says, “I’ve never put my hands on a woman physically, I was raised by a woman. I think people were hurt, feelings were hurt.” “Your wife filed for divorce and got a restraining order,” the hoststated. “What’s the status there? Is the divorce going forward and is the restraining order in effect now?”
“The divorce is going forward, there is a restraining order that’s in effect,” Columbus answered. “This thing is going to happen and it’s sad. People gotta realize when you’re going through a divorce, you’re mourning/ You’re in a season of mourning and I’m going through a season of mourning and loss and it has to be done out in the public eye.”
Mourning….with a new girl on his arm? Oh, Columbus.
He also says he wasn’t involved in the July 4th bar fight and that it was all one big misunderstanding.
“There was no fight. I was involved in no fight,” he said. “I was with a group of people that were eating, I went to the bathroom, I came back and there was an altercation ensuing when I came back. And me being [like] ‘Whoa, let’s break it up,’ it was a misunderstanding and I guess the cops thought I was someone involved in the situation. And then they grabbed me up, and by the time I was on the ground… I apologized to the officers later, [but] I said some pretty choice words [when] I was already in cuffs.” — a completely different story than the one the security guard told police.
“I wasn’t acting intoxicated, I had had a couple of drinks, but whatever, I was angry and I used my vocabulary to kind of fight that. But you know, by the end of it all, it all went away,” he continued. “It’s over, we’re moving forward and upward. One of those bad nights, it sucks.”
Short also touches on his exit from Scandal, saying that the rumors that he was tossed out like yesterday’s trash are completely untrue. ‘We’re a family and I think at a certain point when you’re getting a barrage of stories after stories, ABC justifiably would want to distance themselves,’ Short said.
