Cafeteria Employee Serves Weed Edibles At Louisiana High School

Istock

A cafeteria employee decided to turn a high school into her personal trap house, selling marijuana edibles to the students.

Temporary food server Tymetrica Cohns served more than burgers during lunch periods at Jewel M. Sumner High School in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana. Authorities say the woman had been selling baked goods laced with marijuana that she concocted in her home. It’s unclear how many people purchased the edibles on school grounds, but the plan was foiled when a concerned student sent in a tip using the P3 app, an anonymous reporting system.

Once the tip found its way to Crime Stoppers, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office got involved. Tangipahoa Parish School Superintendent Melissa Stilley confirmed that Cohns was not a full-time school board employee. Instead, she was employed by a local employment agency, ESS, that pairs workers with short-staffed academies. Her agreement with the school was severed immediately.

Stilley thanked the student, whose quick action stopped a “possible threat” that may have resulted in illness.

“I want to commend this student who saw something and used the P3 app to bring this threat to the attention of our school officials and law enforcement,” she stated.

Cohns was arrested on January 20th. She’s been charged with possession and distribution of a controlled substance and distribution of a controlled substance in a drug-free zone. She remains in the Tangipahoa Parish Jail.
