The ex-husband of Matt Barnes’ fiancée has lawyered up and is already planning a lawsuit following the viral spitting incident.

Former NFL star David Patterson Jr. was married to Anansa Sims from 2010 to 2017. However, that relationship soured, and Sims is now engaged to Barnes, with whom she shares a 4-year-old son. She also has three children with Patterson. The relationship between the men began to unravel last year when Patterson accused Barnes of mistreating his kids when they were in his care. Sadly, it looks like their feud has never been resolved.

On Sunday, the men came face to face at the Cowboys vs. 49ers game. Words were exchanged, and Barnes can be seen spitting on Patterson in a video that has now circulated on social media. In response to the clip, Barnes said he was only trying to “spit at” Patterson, who is supposedly trying to damage his career and image.

Patterson’s Friday filing in Los Angeles County Superior Court comes one day after Barnes successfully secured a protective order against him. The ex-NBA pro claimed the incident was a response to Patterson shoving him and months of “harassment.” However, Patterson asks a judge to grant him the same legal grace, claiming that his rival assailed him and caused severe emotional distress.

Patterson is seeking monetary damages. Meanwhile, he has been ordered to stay away from Barnes as his own restraining order is pending.
