Ginuwine drew public criticism after posting an Instagram photo of his daughter surrounded by dollar bills, paired with a joke that fans and his wife, Sole, did not find funny.
According to reports at the time, the first caption joked about being concerned now that his daughter had come in. Ginuwine then posted the same photo again with a second caption saying he needed to stay home more because things were getting catastrophic.
Sole responded publicly on social media. She said the money in the photo was not their daughter’s, called the post Ginuwine’s “sick idea of a joke,” and said she had been trying to stay quiet but would not let her child be publicly humiliated.
Plenty of people read the post as a joke, and Ginuwine appeared to mean it that way. Others felt a joke built around a child’s image went too far, and Sole clearly agreed.
When this story was first reported, Ginuwine had not responded to Sole’s comments publicly. He did speak out later that week.
