Former CNN host Chris Cuomo addresses his 2021 firing from the network.
Cuomo recently appeared on Anthony Scaramucci’s “Open Book” podcast to discuss his outlook on the dismissal. CNN terminated Cuomo after discovering he advised his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, during his sexual misconduct scandal.
Since then, Cuomo says he’s been going to therapy to work through his emotions while coping with the firing.
“This really knocked me sideways,” he said. “One of the things I like to say, maybe too much, is how damaging this was to me personally. And I know that a lot of people don’t give a sh*t. That’s OK. I’m not saying it because I care what you think. I’m saying it because it’s true.”
He continued, “And I have learned to accept that. I had to accept because I was gonna kill everybody, including myself. Things can consume you. Italians are so passionate. And I really had to fight against that because, you know, just like you did, I got too many people counting on me.”
In addition, Cuomo mentioned knowing his brother’s governor position was soon coming to an end before he resigned in 2021.
“I saw what was gonna happening and I was worried about him personally,” he said. “The media builds up and tears down… It is great to see a big name go down.”
Cuomo launched a $125 million arbitration suit against CNN in 2022 over his “unlawful termination.” Cuomo’s attorneys claim he was wrongfully fired after being accused of violating “CNN’s standards and practices.”
“I believe that my job was taken, I believe wrongly,” he said. “I will litigate that, I am not going to b*tch about it in the press. I’m not going to badmouth CNN because I love the people there and I wish ’em well.”
