NYC Mother Reveals Her 11-Year-Old Son Was Hospitalized After He Unknowingly Ate THC-Infused Gummies At A Super Bowl Party

A New York City woman calls for harsher marijuana restrictions after her son was hospitalized for consuming THC gummies.

According to the New York Post, Veronica Gill and her family attended a Super Bowl party last week. When they had returned home, Veronica noticed her 11-year-old son, Ryan, was “acting really strange” but thought his odd behavior was just a joke.

“My son was sitting on the couch with me, and he started zoning out,” Gill explained. “At first, I thought he was pretending because he opened his eyes wide and laughed. Then he would zone out for a minute again, then open his eyes wide and laugh.”

The mother then became worried about Ryan after once his laughter turned into tears and body shakes. Gill thought her son was having a seizure and immediately drove him to urgent care.

Doctors quickly noticed his rapid heart rate and transported him to Richmond University Medical Center. While there, Ryan underwent a handful of standard procedures including a CAT scan. However, Ryan’s urinalysis showed that he had high amounts of THC in his system.

Gill, in disbelief, contacted the host of the party, who told her she had found THC-infused candy in a drawer inside of the home. Gill’s friend insisted she had “no idea” how the candy had gotten into her house.

“A lot of people have said ‘How did she not know [they were edibles]?’ And I tell them, ‘I wouldn’t know,’” Gill explained. “People that use that stuff know. People that don’t, don’t even think to look [for THC warnings] … I’m really not blaming the homeowner at all, because they’re also a victim of this packaging.”

Nevertheless, Gill says she’s glad her son is okay but wants NYC Mayor Eric Adams to enforce stricter laws for THC-infused products.
