A popular candle brand sold exclusively at Walmart is being snatched from shelves due to potential fire hazard threats.
Mainstays’ 14-ounce Halloween and autumn-themed three-wick candles have been recalled by their manufacturer, Star Soap Star Candle Prayer Candle, due to potential fire hazards. Scents Warm Fall Leaves, Pumpkin Spice, Mystic Fog, Jack-O-Lantern, Warm Apple Pie, Fall Farm House, and Magic Potion are the only ones being removed from stores. Walmart sold the seasonal collection between September and November for about $7. CBS News reports that the candle wick burns dangerously close to the side of the jar, causing it to shatter. At least one person has reported the candle causing a fire in their home, while another says they were cut by the glass breaking. Nearly a dozen other reports have claimed the jars exhibited large cracks when the wick burned for too long.

Defects of this kind are not uncommon within the candle industry. In December, three-wick candles from Good Matters were pulled from stores due to a similar flame hazard. In February 2021, Yankee Candle was forced to recall over 31,000 three-wick candles, which were also prone to falling apart due to high heat.
Over 1 million Mainstays candles have been removed from Walmart locations nationwide. Any consumer who purchased the candles is entitled to compensation from Star Soap Star Candle Prayer Candle. Refunds can be processed by calling 800-680-2474 or online at www.recallrtr.com/autumncandle.
