Tory Lanez Appeal Date Set in Megan Thee Stallion Shooting Case

Tory Lanez will learn his fate on April 10. At least, that’s the date scheduled for now. That may change if a judge grants his motion for a new trial.

Lanez, whose given name is Daystar Peterson, agreed to the delay of the sentencing hearing for shooting fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion on Tuesday during a brief appearance before Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge David Herriford.

“Alright, Mr. Peterson, we’ll see you back here on April 10,” Judge Herriford said, according to LA Mag reporter Meghan Cuniff.

The 30-year-old has remained in jail since he was found guilty in December 2022. He was convicted of assault with a firearm, negligent discharge of a firearm, and possession of an unregistered firearm. A jury also found that the rapper caused great bodily harm to Megan, 27.

Judge Herriford also lifted the gag order he imposed last year that ordered Lanez from publicly speaking about the case or Megan, Cuniff reported.

Deputy District Attorneys Alexander Bott and Kathy Ta did not object to the sentencing delay.

Lanez could be sentenced to up to 22 years and eight months in prison if he doesn’t get a new trial and could face deportation back to Canada, where he is a citizen.

Prosecutors are expected to file a memorandum before Lanez’s sentencing hearing that will recommend sentencing they see fit.
