Vanessa Bryant has reached a $28.5 million settlement with
Los Angeles County following claims that county deputies and firefighters shared photos of
Kobe Bryant, his 13-year-old daughter, and other victims of the 2020 helicopter crash.
The amount includes the $15 million that a federal jury granted Vanessa Bryant after a trial in August and a recently agreed-upon payout of $13.5 million from the county, which will be distributed between Bryant’s daughters, Natalia, Bianka and Capri,
CBS Los Angeles reports.
In a proposed settlement order filed in federal court on Tuesday, Bryant’s three daughters will also be released from any future claims, related claims pending in state court, and other fees.
“Today marks the successful culmination of Mrs. Bryant’s courageous battle to hold accountable those who engaged in this grotesque conduct,” said Bryant’s attorney Luis Li. “She fought for her husband, her daughter, and all those in the community whose deceased family were treated with similar disrespect.”
Mira Hashmall, the attorney representing LA County, called the statement “fair and reasonable,” adding, “We hope Ms. Bryant and her children continue to heal from their loss.”
On January 26, 2020, Kobe Bryant and seven others were killed in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, west of Los Angeles.
