The boyfriend of reality star Honey Boo Boo has gotten into some legal trouble after trying to elude the police.
According to a police report obtained by U.S. Weekly, 21-year-old Dralin Carswell was spotted in his Dodge Charger around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 28th, with the 17-year-old “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” star in the passenger seat. A Monroe County deputy, Jaleel Brown, ran his tag in front of a Shell gas station on Highway 24, though it’s unclear what prompted this. That is when an outstanding warrant for Carswell was located. Once the officer attempted a traffic stop, Carswell hit the gas. He fled for about three miles before officers disabled his vehicle using the PIT maneuver, which typically makes a sharp 180-degree turn, forcing the fleeing car to stop.
When police searched the car, they located weed and arrested Carswell. He was charged with five misdemeanors, including fleeing and eluding, driving under the influence of drugs, failing to maintain a lane, speeding, and trailing behind a vehicle too closely. Another passenger in the car, 24-year-old Julian Malik Divon Williams, was also taken into custody for outstanding warrants. Honey Boo Boo, whose real name is Alana Thompson, was not arrested but was taken to the Monroe County Jail, where she was later picked up by her sister and legal guardian, Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon.
The couple has made headlines for several months, with criticism about their age difference and Carswell’s alleged history of dating teenage girls. In May 2019, he was arrested for statutory rape after a mother claimed he snuck into the window of her 15-year-old daughter and had sex with her. He was 18 years old at the time. Once the girl told officers that the encounter was consensual, the rape charges were dropped, and Carswell underwent a pretrial diversion program.
He has been released on a $25,000 bond.
