Whataburger has been crowned the fast-food chain with the healthiest cheeseburger in the United States, according to a study conducted by Gambling.com. The study evaluated cheeseburgers from 15 of the country’s leading fast-food chains based on their fat, sodium, sugar, and caloric content. The burger with the lowest values in all four categories, including fat, sodium, sugar, and calories, received a higher overall health rating. Whataburger’s “Whataburger With Cheese” earned a high overall health score of 8.4 due to its relatively low-fat content and calorie count. In-N-Out’s cheeseburger came in second place with a score of 8.2, while none of the other burgers were as healthy as those offered by Whataburger and In-N-Out. Checker’s/Rally’s cheeseburger ranked third.
Other popular fast-food chains, including Carl’s Jr., Hardee’s, McDonald’s, Five Guys, and Wendy’s, all scored 5.0 or lower in the rankings. Wendy’s, in particular, ranked last with a score of only 4.6 out of 10.
Whataburger’s standard cheeseburger comprises a large beef patty sandwiched between two 5-inch buns, a slice of American cheese, and various toppings, such as lettuce, tomato, pickles, diced onions, and mustard. The restaurant offers eight customizable burger options on its menu, including the ever-popular “Whataburger.” Chicken options are also available, with the buffalo ranch chicken strip sandwich being a recent fan favorite that made a comeback.
