On Friday morning, Alex Murdaugh was sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of killing his wife and son. Â According to PEOPLE, the disgraced attorney was sporting a new look in his mugshot, with a shaved head and yellow jumpsuit.
Murdaugh was given two life sentences for the murder of Maggie Murdaugh, 52, and Paul Murdaugh, 22, who were both fatally shot on June 7, 2021, near the dog kennels of the family’s 1,770-acre hunting estate.
Initially, Murdaugh denied being at the location where his wife and son were shot. Â However, during the trial, he admitted to lying about his whereabouts that night but continued to maintain his innocence, saying that he did not shoot them.
Prosecutors and authorities argue that he killed them due to personal and financial struggles that became too much to handle. Â In court, prosecutor Creighton Waters called Murdaugh a “cunning manipulator” and a man who put himself above everyone else, including his own family.
“A man like this man should never be allowed to be among free, law-abiding citizens again,” Waters said.  During the trial, whenever Murdaugh would walk by him, Waters would stare him down.
Before sentencing Murdaugh, Judge Clifton Newman told him, “I know you have to see Paul and Maggie during the nighttime when you’re attempting to go to sleep. Â I’m sure they come and visit you.”
