Prince of New York DJ self stopped by Math Hoffa’s My Expert Opinion podcast recently, where he was asked whether Cardi B ever thanked him.
Self explains that he approached Cardi to join the Love & Hip Hop cast, but she initially turned him down. However, things eventually worked out, and the rapper joined the cast. But he stops short of taking credit for discovering her.
“When you use that word discover, that’s a strong word with discover,” Self says. “You can’t discover something that is there. I put the magnifying glass on her.”
When asked if Cardi has ever thanked him, Self tells the hosts that she has never thanked him.
“But, in the same sentence, I may not have done anything for her music career.”
When co-host Mecca presses the topic, noting that Self put her in a space where her music was relevant.
“I put her on television,” the reality TV star admits. “I didn’t put her in a record deal.”
The two worked alongside each other on a couple of seasons of VH1’s Love & Hip Hop. Their relationship on the show was portrayed as tense, with Cardi telling the Gwinnin’ Entertainment owner that he was “disloyal” and unsupportive of her music career.
The two have dispelled the rumors over the years, having posed together for pictures on social media. Cardi previously called the Love & Hip Hop storyline fake on Instagram Live.
