Chris Rock has finally addressed Will Smith slapping him on live television after the 2022 Oscars. In his new Netflix special, Chris Rock: Selective Outrage, he joked, “I gotta watch what I say. You know anybody that says words hurt has never been punched in the face.”
Rock recounted the incident, saying, “I got hit so hard, I heard ‘Summertime’ ringing in my ears.” He then compared his body type to Smith’s, saying, “He’s in movies with his shirt off. If I’m in a movie getting open heart surgery, I got on a sweater.”
Referring to rumors of Jada Pinkett Smith cheating on Will, he said, “I didn’t have any entanglements. I have no idea why two talented people would do something that f—ing low down, what the f—?”
Rock stressed that he had no beef with Smith but rather with Jada. “She said I should quit because Will didn’t get nominated for Concussion. What the f—?” He continued, “I love Will Smith, my whole life. I rooted for this motherf—–. And now I watch Emancipation just to see him get whooped.”
But why didn’t Rock retaliate that night? “Cause I got parents, that’s why. Cause I was raised. I got parents and you know what my parents taught me? Don’t fight in front of white people!” So, there you have it – selective outrage and parental teachings on full display.
