Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and Hershey’s Chocolate Almond bar is getting a vegan makeover.
On Tuesday, Hershey’s announced the new line of vegan chocolates, a healthier alternative for sweets lovers. Both the Hershey’s Chocolate Almond Bar and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are made with sea salt and oats instead of dairy but still possess the milk chocolate taste. The Reese’s will contain the same great peanut butter center that fans have grown to love.
These dairy-free candy offerings are part of Hershey’s Better-For-You initiative, which works to present tasty treats for vegans or diet-conscious snackers. Hershey’s CEO Michele Buck confirmed that the program would get an extra push this year, meaning more vegan options may arrive in stores soon. Teal Liu, brand manager of Better For You, expressed her excitement about the forthcoming plant-based options.
“We are excited to introduce these delicious, plant-based options,” she said. “Our purpose is to create more moments of goodness for consumers. Those moments are now more accessible for chocolate lovers looking for plant-based alternatives.”
This isn’t Hershey’s first time experimenting with oat as a chocolate alternative. In 2021, it tested a bar called Oat Made, though it was discontinued. The new rendition is the first oat Hershey’s candy to be sold in the U.S.
The new Reese’s and non-dairy chocolate bar will arrive in stores in April. The company has confirmed that they will be slightly more expensive than their dairy-adjacent counterparts but is holding off on announcing prices.
