Meta is discontinuing its Reels Play bonus program on Instagram and Facebook, which rewards short-form video creators when they reach specific views on their videos.

According to Business Insider, the change will affect US creators on Instagram and creators on Facebook.  While existing commitments will be honored over the next 30 days, Meta will not offer any new or renewed Reels Play bonus deals.

A Meta spokesperson explained that the company is shifting its focus to investing in monetization solutions that can provide creators with steady streams of income.  Although the Reels bonus program initially offered substantial payouts to creators, the payouts have decreased, making it more challenging to earn the same amount in bonuses.

Creators can still earn money through subscriptions and brand partnerships, and Meta will consider new markets for a more targeted version of the program.  The Reels bonus program was part of Meta’s two-year, $1 billion fund for creators that will continue through 2022.
