Memphis Grizzlies player Ja Morant will enter a counseling program in Florida following his questionable off-the-court decision-making.
The decision comes after the player was involved in a few troubling incidents, one involving an alleged assault of a teenager and another where he brandished a gun on Instagram Live while at a Colorado strip club.
He’s already missed five games since the latter incident.
Morant could face a lengthy suspension if the investigation finds that he brought his gun onto the team premises, like the team plane, bus, or locker room.
According to the Collective Bargaining Agreement, all players are prohibited from carrying firearms while traveling with the team.
On Monday, the Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins provided an update on the decision.
“There are a lot of internal dialogues going on, and obviously, there’s still things going on at the league level that we’re in communication with,” Jenkins said. “Ja’s fully engaged in this process and ready for whatever comes next after these 2 games.”
It is unclear when the NBA player will return to the court.
