Prosecutors in the Atlanta area are reportedly considering filing racketeering and conspiracy charges in connection with former President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election in Georgia.
The investigation has yielded substantial evidence, including recordings of phone calls, emails, text messages, documents, and testimony from dozens of witnesses, both inside and outside the state. It appears that the effort to help Trump was not just a grassroots movement that originated within Georgia but a coordinated effort involving people from various locations.
The special grand jury spent seven months hearing testimony, including from some of Trump’s closest advisers and recommended multiple indictments in their final report. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis may make decisions on charges this spring and will present her recommendations to grand juries, who each serve two-month terms.
The investigation has uncovered recordings of Trump pressuring Georgia officials, including a phone call to the Georgia House speaker and a call to a top investigator with the Georgia Secretary of State’s office. The probe also includes false claims of election fraud, a fake elector scheme, and efforts to access voting machines.
