It appears that Netflix is either beginning to test TV games or considering doing so, as suggested by the code found in its app.
According to reports, developer Steve Moser discovered a concealed code that alludes to games being played on TV, along with supplementary code suggesting the potential to utilize phones as controllers for playing these games. Moser had previously discovered indication suggesting that the ad-supported plan that the service was about to launch might not include offline viewing, which turned out to be accurate.
“A game on your TV needs a controller to play. Do you want to use this phone as a game controller?” the app reads.
In 2021, the Netflix rolled out its gaming service for Android, iPhones, and iPads. As per the regulations imposed by Apple and Google, mobile users need to download the games from the App Store or Google Play. In addition, the objective of these games is to enhance user engagement and retention, so they can be initiated from within the Netflix app, but only with an active subscription. It is worth mentioning that these games are not presently available on the Netflix app for TV.
Last year, the Vice President of Game Development at Netflix, Mike Verdu, stated last year that the company was actively investigating the possibility of introducing a cloud gaming service and that it plans to introduce more than just casual games for TV.
