In two weeks, a restaurant located in the center of Downtown Disney in Anaheim, California, which was one of the first ones to open, will permanently shut down.
The Catal Restaurant and its well-known Uva Bar, located at the Disneyland resort’s outdoor shopping center, which has been a part of Downtown Disney since its establishment in 2001, will shut down on April 14, as announced by the eatery through an Instagram post. The two restaurants have been a significant feature of the mall for over twenty years.
“We’re celebrating an incredible, delightful, delicious 22 years — from now until our last day of service,” the restaurant said. “… Sip favorite cocktails from the last two decades as we toast to the laughs, the memories, and the meals. Come cheers with us one more time.”
Disneyland’s website states that Catal Restaurant will shut down due to an extensive redevelopment project in Downtown Disney. In the previous year, SFGATE reported that retailers including AMC theater and Earl of Sandwich, were demolished to make room for new additions. Soon, Din Tai Fung, a highly successful Chinese restaurant chain known for its soup dumplings, and California’s favorite dessert spot, Porto’s Bakery & Café, will be joining Disney.
Paseo and Céntrico, a restaurant and courtyard bar serving upscale Mexican cuisine and tequila-based cocktails, will occupy the former site of Catal Restaurant and Uva Bar.
In December 2022, the Orange County Register reported that Disneyland submitted building permits worth $5.4 million for new construction.
“The commercial construction permits filed with the Anaheim Planning and Building Department call for a new 8,300-square-foot retail building with room for five shops. Also in the works: A new bathroom and employee break room,” the outlet reported.
