On Monday, 15 people were charged, and 16 others were hospitalized after the University of Connecticut was vandalized following a celebration of the men’s basketball team’s NCAA championship.

According to UConn spokesperson Stephanie Reitz, most of the 15 people charged were UConn students.

“A small number chose to risk their safety and that of others by vandalizing or destroying property after the game,” Reitz said. “UConn Police will investigate the vandalism and other potential criminal offenses that occurred. Those responsible will face arrest and, if they are students, sanctions up to and including expulsion.”

Police released the names of all the students and their various charges:

  • Ryan Bosak, 21, of Kings Park, New York. Charged with disorderly conduct
  • Christopher Choiniere, 29. Charged with interfering with an officer/resisting and breach of peace second-degree
  • Justin Jennings, 20, of New Milford. Charged with criminal mischief second-degree
  • Sai Prathigadapa, 20, of Avon. Charged with criminal mischief second-degree
  • Angel Rivas, 20, of Old Greenwich. Charged with criminal mischief first-degree and breach of peace second-degree
  • Jonathan Healey, 19, of Wilton. Charged with interfering with an officer/resisting and disorderly conduct
  • Isabelle Musto, 19, of Trumbull. Charged with reckless burning and breach of peace second-degree.
  • Kyle Cabana, 21, of Glastonbury. Charged with criminal mischief second-degree
  • Jonah Deprey, 19, of Torrington. Arrested twice. Charged with 69 counts of forgery second-degree and operating while under the influence
  • Roger Akiki, 20, of Howard Beach, New York. Charged with criminal mischief second-degree, riot first-degree, and breach of peace second-degree
  • Justin Tatsapaugh, 20, of New Hartford. Charged with criminal mischief third-degree, riot first-degree, and breach of peace second-degree
  • Nate Hornyak, 23, of Clinton. Charged with interfering with an officer/resisting and disorderly conduct
  • Dhillon Parikshak, 18. Charged with criminal mischief second-degree
  • George Velky, 20, of Saint Paul, Minnesota. Charged with interfering with an officer/resisting, breach of peace second-degree, and reckless endangerment second-degree

According to Reitz, most of the vandalism involved broken light poles in the middle of campus, broken glass windows, and a door to the Student Union. One vehicle was turned on its side, and trash cans and wooden benches were set on fire.

“I definitely feel bad for all of the people who have to repair all of this, but everyone was just super excited, and maybe it just kind of got a little out of hand,” said Zach True, a UConn sophomore.

None of the 16 individuals who were taken to nearby hospitals for injury evaluation were thought to have suffered any severe injuries.
