Actress Amanda Bynes has been released from a mental hospital three weeks after admitting herself to a facility following an episode.
The 37-year-old, who has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and manic depression, was seen roaming the streets of Los Angeles naked on March 19th. She flagged down a vehicle and told the driver she was coming down from an episode. She was not harmed, but police were called, and Bynes was taken to the station. Mental health professionals decided to place her on a 72-hour hold. She extended her stay to continue treatment.
She was released from the facility on Tuesday but will continue receiving outpatient care, TMZ reports. Bynes’ hospitalization came almost a year after her conservatorship ended. Her mother, Lynn Bynes, became her conservator in 2013 once she was first diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Several bizarre instances alarmed her family and fans. Bynes set her neighbor’s driveway on fire, which led to one of her first stints in a psychiatric facility. Following last month’s episode, Bynes’ former fiance, actor Paul Michael told several outlets that the former child star had been “off her meds” for a while. She is also said to be estranged from her family, though they supported the end of the conservatorship. In addition to her mental health issues, Bynes has been open about her struggles with pill addiction.
Bynes became famous in the 90s and early 2000s as part of Nickelodeon’s series, All That and her own, The Amanda Show.” She stepped away from the spotlight nearly ten years ago to pursue a career in cosmetology.
