A pregnant woman was shot at a Nashville Walgreens after one worker said she was shoplifting.
The worker told authorities they had to chase the woman into the parking lot, spurring a premature delivery.
Local police say 21-year-old Mitarius Boyd — the store’s team lead working that Wednesday–shot 34-year-old Travonsha Ferguson while trying to stop what he says was an active theft in progress, TMZ reported.
Boyd reportedly told authorities that he fired his weapon at Ferguson and another woman she was with after chasing them to their car and felt his life was in danger when one of the women started to spray him with mace.
He has not been arrested.
Ferguson was seven months pregnant and was hit eight times– twice in each leg and four times in the stomach. Her friend drove her to the hospital, where she underwent an emergency C-section and two other surgeries.
The baby was not hit, but both the mother and baby are listed in critical condition.
