Roy Rosselló, a former 80’s child star in the band Menudo, has now admitted that a label exec molested him. Ironically, the man was killed by his sons for allegedly doing the same to them.
The shocking revelation was made in the forthcoming Peacock docuseries Menendez + Menudo: Boys Betrayed. Rosselló alleges Jose Menendez drugged and raped him when he was a teenager. Menendez was the powerful head of RCA Records at the time. In the trailer, Rosselló shared that the rape occurred in Menendez’s home.
“That’s the man here that raped me,” Rosselló says while referring to a photo of a man. He called him “the pedophile.”
Menendez signed Menudo to RCA Records. Members of the group claimed they were subjected to numerous assaults at the hands of Menendez. The doc will also examine allegations against the group’s former manager, Edgardo Diaz, whom Rosselló also accused of sexually abusing him when he was a member of the group. Last year, HBO Max unveiled a similar doc, “Menudo: Forever Young,” which included 13 former members, all documenting sexual, mental, and physical abuse. Diaz has denied any wrongdoing.
Menendez is no longer alive to address the allegations, having been shot in the head by his sons Erik and Lyle in 1989. They also killed their mother, Kitty, shooting her 15 times. Erik, who was 18, and Lyle, who was 21 when they carried out the murders, initially claimed the mob killed their parents. They later admitted to the murders but claimed they were acting in self-defense after years of sexual abuse at the hands of their father. The young men claimed their mother turned a blind eye to the abuse. Both are serving life sentences.
What remains to be seen is whether or not Rosselló’s claims will help Erik and Lyle secure a new trial after years of unsuccessful appeals.
