General Mills Issue Recall on Gold Medal Flour Due to Salmonella Contamination

On Friday, General Mills announced a voluntary recall for Gold Medal flour due to possible salmonella contamination.

According to the FDA, the company recalled 2, 5, and 10-pound bags of Gold Medal unbleached and bleached all-purpose flour with “better if used by” dates of March 27, 2024, and March 28, 2024.

Salmonella infantis was found during testing in a five-pound bag of flour, prompting the recall.

The recall does not apply to any other kinds of Gold Medal flour.

General Mills has advised consumers to throw away any flour that complies with the recall requirements.

They are urging consumers to Call General Mills Consumer Relations at 1-800-230-8103 if you had to discard recalled flour.

The following code dates are for the recalled products currently in stores or consumers’ pantries:

  • For bleached 2-pound bags: 000-16000-10710;
  • For unbleached 5-pound bags: 000-16000-19610;
  • For bleached 5-pound bags: 000-16000-10610;
  • For unbleached 10-pound bags: 000-16000-19580.

According to the CDC, a salmonella infantis infection can result in nausea, diarrhea, fever, and stomach pain.

After infection, symptoms appear six hours to six days later and continue for four to seven days.

The CDC reported in an investigation notice published at the end of March that a multi-state salmonella outbreak is thought to have originated from flour.
