On Wednesday, United Airlines announced they would be hiring 15,000 new employees by the end of the year.

So far, United Airlines has already hired over 7,000 new workers since January 2023.

In 2026, United anticipates hiring 50,000 additional employees to its already growing 93,000.

Kate Gebo, the company’s senior vice president of human resources, told reporters that “we are in hiring mode here at United Airlines.”

Officials from the airline claimed to already have enough pilots to run the busy summer schedule.

Airlines have been hiring like crazy ever since recovering from the pandemic earlier than expected.

Flight cancellation and delay rates increased last year, in part due to a shortage of pilots and flight attendants.

Jobs in the aviation business have increased by more than 117,000, or 32%, since November 2020, reaching more than 480,00 as of this February.

As for other airlines, Delta has hired over 20,000 new employees as of 2021. They have yet to release their hiring plans for 2023.

Southwest initially planned to hire 7,000 new employees, but that number was reduced due since the airline hasn’t received as many new Boeing jets as it expected.

Additionally, executives at United plan to hire 2,300 pilots this year and expect nearly 500 to retire.

The company’s headquarters at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago is expected to have 3,800 new jobs this year.

According to Airline executives, 2,300 jobs will be added to Denver, 2,100 to Houston, 2,000 to Newark, New Jersey, and 1,600 to San Francisco.
