There’s always been a bit of a sibling rivalry between Kanye West and Jay Z. True fans of hip hop have probably picked up on several instances where Jay Z would announce a tour or an album around the time when Kanye would announce his. One listen to Kanye’s “Big Brother” record and you see that behind closed doors, the two have been at odds before. Let us not forget how Kanye reacted when Jay Z went on tour with Justin Timberlake instead of doing ‘Watch The Throne 2’ or Kanye’s absence from Jay & Bey’s latest albums. Now it seems like they are on the outs again. Could Kanye’s marriage to Kim be the reason?
There’s always been wild rumors and speculation that The Carters weren’t total fans of the Kardashians, nor Kanye’s affiliation and admiration of them. Recently they missed KimYe’s Italy wedding ceremony to kick it in the Hamptons. Many believed it was because of the attendance of Rachel Roy, Damon Dash’s ex-wife but also the woman who supposedly sparked the fight between Solange and Jay Z in the elevator. Now, for those of you that may have forgotten, Dame and Kanye were much closer friends than Kanye and Jay so it would seem rather odd for Dame to not receive an invitation but his ex-wife did….but then to choose this ex-wife over the attendance of his “brother.” Now fast forward to Kanye’s performance last weekend at the X-Games in Austin, TX. On two occasions where Kanye’s lyrics once referenced Jay Z, he dropped his name out of the song all together.
Kanye West performed “Cold” in front of his fans and where he normally says “Might have Jay drop you from the team” referencing Kris Humphries and the Brooklyn Nets, he drops Jay’s name. Now at first one could just say ‘maybe it’s because Jay is no longer part owner of the team’, but that was until Kanye omitted Jay’s name again in “Blood On The Leaves” where he normally says “I don’t give a damn if you talk to Jay.”
Trouble brewing? I’ve been a fan of the two for a long time and if there is one thing I know, it’s that Kanye loves Jay. Whatever the issue is, they will work it out.
