Forever President Barack Obama spoke openly on his exit from the White House and how it helped his marriage to his wife, Michelle.

Mrs. Obama previously revealed she “couldn’t stand” her husband for roughly “10 years” of their marriage.

During a sit-down Tuesday with CBS Mornings co-host Nate Burleson, Barack was asked about his wife’s comments.

“How do you get back in good graces?” Burleson asked.

“Let me just say this: It sure helps to be out of the White House and to have a little more time with her,” Obama replied with laughter.

Mrs. Obama recently opened up about their relationship during an interview with Gayle King.

“We’ve been married for 30 years,” she told King. “If I fell out with him for 10 [years], and we had a great 20 years, I’d take those odds anytime.”

Obama, 61, also said Tuesday that their daughters–Malia, 24, and Sasha, 21—growing up has also helped his marriage.

It was great talking to @NateBurleson about our work at the @MBK_Alliance. I'm proud of the hundreds of MBK communities across the country that are identifying barriers and helping young men and boys of color succeed. pic.twitter.com/kLFrpKvoIx

“Michelle, when our girls were growing up, that was priority number one, two, three, and four,” Obama, who left office in 2017, said.

“So I did not fully appreciate — I think as engaged of a father as I was — the degree of stress and tension for her, knowing not just that me and Michelle were under scrutiny and in this strange environment, but that we were raising our daughters in a kind of situation that just wasn’t normal,” he said.

“Now that they’re doing good, she is a little more forgiving of all my flaws,” Obama added with a grin.

“What she’s told me is, ‘Looking back, you did OK as a dad.’ And if I passed that test, she’ll forgive me, most of my other foibles.”
