‘But I’m Still Single Though’.

My friend and I were at a stop light singing our hearts out to ‘Superpower’ when I smiled as I watched a couple cross the street in front of the vehicle. They walked hand in hand giggling like high school sweethearts and just as I was going to comment on how cute they were my friend blurted “But I’m still single though! He must must have money.” I was immediately annoyed as my thoughts quickly went to the numerous memes I see plastered over Twitter and Instagram of odd couples and some fool stating ‘but I can’t even get a text back.’ Like, WHAT? Because a heavyset guy who may not be society’s idea of ‘fine’ is with what people call a ‘bad chick’ she has to be using him? He MUST have money huh? For some people it is unfathomable that someone could actually Love an overweight person for who they really are. Perhaps he treats her like a queen and cherishes her like no one has before. Maybe THAT is why she Loves him.

How is it that people think they can have a say in who deserves Love? Please tell me how not being a size 4 with a tiny waist, hips and butt for days with long flowing hair deems someone less worthy? There is a popular meme with a photo of June (Honey Boo Boo’s mother) that is captioned ‘She has a boyfriend and you’re single.. Let that sink in.” I will be honest, I chuckled when I saw it because people play too much but the message it suggests is trash. Why shouldn’t this woman have a boyfriend? Are you mad because June is cuffed and you’re dealing with a guy who only sees you after sundown, refuses to take you out and calls you his ‘lil homie’? Her man probably thinks she is THEE baddest thing walking and that’s what counts.

I don’t think I realized how narrow-minded, nasty and rude people could be about looks and relationships until I perused Shaneka Adams’ Instagram comments one day. I read on and on with my mouth agape because I really could not believe what people were saying about her and her relationship. “He must got money!” (Their favorite line) “She could have at least picked someone cute and well built.” “She too bad to like fat dudes smh” and those are the nicer ones, they get nastier. People make similar comments about Tamar and Vince. If you have ever watched Tamar and Vince interact their Love and adoration of one another is obvious. Knock it off. The people who make and share those memes and leave those comments are terribly lost. Maybe the reason you’re ‘still single though’ is because your nice body and pretty face is attached to a trash personality and that aint cute boo! *In Tamar’s voice* Womp!

It doesn’t always pertain to a person being overweight. People aren’t picky about what or who they judge. It could be that a guy is significantly shorter than his woman, underweight, she could be of a different race (isn’t this played out?! Geesh), social or career status. You name it! It should not matter, let them Love (no Kandi)

What are your thoughts when you see an odd couple? Do you assume (what people consider) the less attractive person is being used? Are you guilty of seeing a couple and thinking “but I’m still single though”?
