Johnny Depp has reportedly inked a groundbreaking agreement to retain his position as the ambassador of Dior men’s fragrance Sauvage.
Despite enduring setbacks in his career due to Amber Heard’s abuse accusations, which resulted in his alleged removal from the “Pirates of the Caribbean” series, Depp has served as the ambassador for Sauvage since 2015.
According to Variety, Depp has now secured a three-year contract with Dior worth over $20 million, making it the most lucrative deal ever signed for a men’s fragrance. Depp’s contract reportedly surpasses Robert Pattinson’s $12 million agreement with Dior Homme and Brad Pitt’s $7 million deal for Chanel No. 5.
The million dollar deal comes just after Depp nearly faced cancellation following Heard’s domestic abuse allegations. However after a six-week defamation trial, Heard was ordered to pay $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages. Late last year, the sum was diminished to $1 million. During that period, Depp’s lawyer affirmed that he would donate the funds to charity.
At the Cannes Film Festival this week, Depp received a remarkable seven-minute standing ovation for his portrayal of French King Louis XV in “Jeanne du Barry.” In an interview with Variety at the festival, Depp expressed that he does not perceive himself as being “boycotted” by Hollywood.
“I don’t feel boycotted by Hollywood, because I don’t think about Hollywood. I don’t have much further need for Hollywood, myself,” he said. “It’s a strange, funny time where everybody would love to be able to be themselves, but they can’t. They must fall in line with the person in front of them. If you want to live that life, I wish you the best.”
