Brian McKnight‘s personal life has recently garnered significant media attention, thrusting him back into the spotlight.
According to court documents, the R&B singer had a far more contentious split from his “first family” than initially thought. McKnight and his former spouse, Patricia, were in a courtroom dispute concerning their daughter Briana’s health insurance. Patricia contended that the artist had agreed to cover 100% of Briana’s healthcare expenses, even though she had reached the age of 18 and was technically responsible for her healthcare costs based on their original divorce settlement.
In the end, a judge ruled that McKnight must provide his ex-wife with approximately $1800 in reimbursements for their daughter’s healthcare expenses.
Additionally, the documents revealed McKnight’s attempt to evade payment for Briana’s therapy sessions, asserting that he was unaware of their necessity. He stated, “When he received the bills, he thought the therapy could be elective. After a few months of therapy, he found out the reason for the therapy” and paid the bill.
McKnight also declined to cover the cost of his daughter’s birth control pills, despite her mother claiming it was for a medical condition. McKnight argued that his ex-wife had not provided him with the necessary documentation in a timely manner, which is why he had not paid for the pills. The judge ruled in favor of McKnight regarding this particular issue.
Nevertheless, it recently came to light that McKnight’s daughter filed a lawsuit against him in 2020. The lawsuit alleged that McKnight’s public statement, where he disclosed that she had engaged in sexual relations with an older cousin during her minor years, was driven by “animosity.”
