Summer Walker claims that the Recording Academy “played” her after her first two studio albums didn’t receive any Grammy nominations.

During the Caresha Please podcast the premiered last week, the Still Over It singer expressed her disappointment in not being nominated for any of the R&B categories.

“Honestly, both albums, Over It and Still Over It, really did the numbers,” Walker said. “I don’t know. I feel like I got played. The numbers were there. The fans were there. When I pop out for a show, sold out every time.”

“I don’t f**king know why they played me,” she continued. “I do know why, but I ain’t gonna go into it. But it’s ok. The love is there, and the money is there. So it’s good.”

With her critically praised first album, Over It, the 27-year-old made waves in 2019. The album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200.

The seductive singer-songwriter made a comeback more than two years later in 2021 with the release of her sophomore album, Still Over It, which marked her first Billboard 200 chart-topping album debut.

Although she didn’t receive a Grammy for any of her albums, she did appear on Kendrick Lamar and Ghostface Killah’s  “Purple Hearts,” which won this year’s Grammy Award for Best Rap Album.

Over the years, Summer has received awards for the Soul Train Music Awards for Best New Artist and Album of the Year for Over It, an iHeartRadio Music Award for Best New R&B Artist, and a Billboard Music Award for Top R&B Female Artist.
