Justin Johnson

One of the men accused of killing rapper Young Dolph could face additional charges after being caught with drugs while behind bars.

Justin Johnson, who is allegedly one of the shooters in Dolph’s murder, was recently busted for having the illegal contraband while in Tennessee’s Shelby County Jail. Authorities would not reveal what type of drugs were found but did confirm that in addition to the narcotics, a cell phone was found in his cell. In November 2022, Johnson’s phone privileges were removed after he released a rap song titled “No Statements,” which was eventually shared on YouTube before being taken down. The song was recorded via the jail’s phone. In the bold track, Johnson addressed Dolph’s death, rapping, “Say I’m a rapper, the state says that I’m a paid killer.”

In April 2023, Johnson’s request to have his phone and visitation reinstated was denied. His lawyer has argued that this decision violates Johnson’s rights.

Johnson, known by his rap name Straight Drop, is being accused of gunning down the Memphis rapper with the help of Cornelius Smith as Dolph shopped for treats at Makeda’s Homemade Cookies. According to his autopsy, Dolph was shot 22 times during the attack, struck in his neck, head, and torso. He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

In addition to Johnson and Smith, Shundale Barnett and Hernandez Govan, who was the alleged mastermind behind the murder, have also been charged with various charges in connection to Dolph’s violent slaying. No motive has ever been made public.
