A former New York doctor decided to spin the block one last time on his wife after failing to have her killed during his initial murder-for-hire plot.
Ira Bernstein, a former successful podiatrist, has been hit with a new set of charges for attempting to have his wife murdered for the second time in just a few years. The 49-year-old was released from prison in 2021 after serving four years for a similar scheme. In 2015, Bernstein worked with his lover Kelly Gribeluk to pay car salesman Marckensy Louissaint $100,000 to run over his wife, Susan. Louissaint was to make it look like an accident. Bernstein would eventually plead guilty to felony conspiracy and was sentenced to five to 15 years behind bars in 2017. Just two years after being released, he again tried to take Susan down.
Details of how the new plot unfolded have not been released by the Ramapo Police Department as the investigation continues. However, investigators have confirmed that Bernstein recruited his sister, attorney Jaclyn Goldberg, to help him destroy evidence. The new plot allegedly took place between July 29th, 2022, through September 21st, 2022. Thankfully, Susan does not appear to have been harmed.
Bernstein has been charged with one count each of second-degree criminal solicitation, fourth-degree unlawful solicitation, tampering with physical evidence, and fifth-degree criminal conspiracy. Ironically, he will only face a maximum of 3 1/2 to seven years in prison if convicted this time. Goldberg faces one count each of tampering with physical evidence, third-degree hindering the prosecution, and fifth-degree conspiracy. Both have pleaded not guilty.
