Nicki Minaj may have to cough up a couple of bands after a jeweler claimed she damaged several pieces they let her borrow.
On Tuesday, TMZ reported that Minaj was being sued by the Roseark jewelry store in West Hollywood. In the court docs, the company claimed that Minaj’s stylist Brett Alan Nelson signed a contract to borrow the jewelry for a public appearance attended by Minaj. Per the agreement, Nelson was responsible for returning the bling within a week and had to pay for any damages that occurred while in the rapper’s possession. Roseark says the jewels were not returned within the designated time frame.
When Nelson finally brought the pieces back, they had significant damage to them, specifically to a pair of earrings and a leaf ring. Roseark claims at least one stone was missing from the set, though Minaj’s attorney Jordan Siev told TMZ that the items were intact when returned. Siev believes the suit is nothing more than a shot at clout.
“This lawsuit appears to be nothing more than an ordinary insurance claim by the jeweler designed to generate publicity for itself and extract a payment to which it is not entitled,” he said in a statement.
For now, Roseark is seeking $26,239.50 plus interest for their broken trinkets. The company says they’ve sent several invoices to Nelson for the damage, though they have not received payment from him now or Minaj, though she never had any direct contact with them. The “Super Bass” star has not publicly addressed her latest legal battle.
