A funeral home owner allegedly shot two people, killing a pallbearer, during a child’s burial service.
On Tuesday, a tragic incident unfolded at a cemetery in Suitland, Maryland. Wilson Chavis,48, reportedly confronted two unidentified individuals connected to another funeral company. It is stated that Chavis had a long-standing business dispute with them.
During the confrontation, Chavis allegedly shot and fatally wounded Ronald Steven Banks, a 30-year-old pallbearer, and injured a woman during the service organized by Chavis’ company.
According to the Prince George’s County Police Department’s media relations division manager, Brian Fischer, the woman was grazed by a bullet but received medical treatment and has been discharged from the hospital.
Following the gunfire, Chavis promptly left the scene in his vehicle. However, his attempt to evade arrest came to an end when an officer from the Morningside Police Department conducted a traffic stop, apprehending Chavis and taking him into custody.
The unfortunate incident occurred during a funeral service in honor of Arianna Davis, a 10-year-old who tragically lost her life on Mother’s Day last month. Arianna was riding in a vehicle with her family when she was fatally shot.
Chavis faces first-degree murder, second-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, and additional related charges. If convicted, he could potentially face life in prison. Chavis is currently behind bars at the Prince George County’s Department of Correction.
