Donald Trump Jr. has found himself in hot water after offensive private emails about Black and Mexican communities have been exposed in court.
The legal case revolved around Texas financier Gentry Beach, a friend of Trump Jr., who’s been in a years-long court fight with his former hedge-fund employer Touradji Capital Management. In the suit, Beach accused the hedge fund of withholding millions of dollars in pay. This lawsuit has led to a separate argument about whether a judge should permit the public to access offensive emails that were shared among a group consisting of Beach, Donald Trump Jr., and others. Those emails in question were only recently added to the case during a retrial this year after a $91 million judgment Beach and his co-defenant won was thrown out on appeal.
Beach has now been fighting to have Trump Jr.’s name redacted in case documents. However, some of the emails were discussed in open court during this year’s retrial. In one e-mail exchange about a Beach family move to upper Manhattan, Don Jr. referred to the area as “Harlem” due to the number of Black residents now living there. “I hear the theme song of the Jeffersons playing in the background,” Trump Jr. wrote, the Wall Street Journal reports.
In other e-mails Jr. complained about members of congress encouraging Mexicans to come to the U.S.
“Encourage the Mexicans to come to the US and give them another excuse to not learn English,” he wrote. “When I have to speak to my grandchildren in Spanish, at least I know I will have you to thank.” To which Beach responded, “We’re going to stop this wetback issue dead in its tracks.”
Beach also made separate offensive remarks about the Jewish community.
The emails are years old, and were sent out between 2005 and 2008 from Beach’s Touradji account.
