In a significant operation on Friday, the U.S. Coast Guard made a major bust in Miami, uncovering over 14,000 pounds of cocaine.
According to authorities, the street value of the seized drugs exceeds $186 million, marking the largest seizure by the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Bear, as reported by Local 10 News.
“The confiscated contraband offloaded today exemplifies the professional expertise and dedication of U.S. defense and law enforcement agencies collaborating to combat the illicit drug trade in the Caribbean Region and its flow into the United States,” stated Lt. Peter Hutchison, the duty enforcement officer at Coast Guard District Seven. “This teamwork is essential for identifying, intercepting, and seizing vessels involved in illicit trafficking, and it is a testament to the hard work of these crews.”
As a result of the operation, twelve individuals suspected of smuggling were apprehended and now face federal prosecution.
