Authorities continued their search on Thursday morning for the missing Titanic Tourist Submarine that is believed to be at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean despite theories that it has run out of oxygen.

On Sunday, OceanGate Expeditions told US Coast Guards that the vessel was only equipped with 96 hours of oxygen and that the timer was expected to run out at 7:08 a.m. on Thursday.

While US and Canadian officials continue to search for the missing sub, the status of the five passengers is still unknown.

A remotely
operated vehicle
“has reached the sea floor” and has begun looking for the missing submarine, according to the US Coast Guards.

It was previously reported that the missing included: OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, British billionaire Hamish Harding, Pakistani tech and energy mogul Shahzada Dawood and his 19-year-old son Sulaiman, and famed Titanic explorer Paul-Henri Nargeolet.
The US Coast Guards have stated that it is possible that the sub resurfaced and it was unable to communicate its location.
According to Insider, Mike Tipton, director of the severe environments laboratory at Portsmouth University in the UK, individuals can only survive without oxygen for roughly three minutes at a time.

During that time, individuals
may experience restlessness, headaches, confusion, shortness of breath, blue fingertips, elevated heart rate, and eventually, loss of consciousness. Individuals can expect brain damage and eventually death.
