A Chicago mother and her 14-year-old son are facing murder charges in connection to a shooting that occurred inside a restaurant last Sunday.

Police arrested Carlisha Hood, 35, and her son on Wednesday. She was charged with murder and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and bail was set at $3 million. The teen was also charged with murder, and information about his bond has not been released.

According to police, Hood entered a Maxwell Street Express to get food while her son waited in the car. Jeremy Brown, 32, entered the restaurant, and an argument between him and Hood broke out.

Hood texted her son during the argument and asked him to come inside. The fight turned physical, with Brown punching Hood in the head several times.

Hood’s son pulled out a gun and shot Brown in the back. Brown attempted to leave the scene, and the teen followed him and shot him again. Brown was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after.

According to court documents, Hood turned her attention to a witness that was laughing during the incident. She encouraged her son to shoot the person, believed to be Brown’s girlfriend. She tried to take the gun away from the teen, but he brushed her off, and the pair got into their car and left.

Neither Hood nor the boy has a criminal history, and Hood has a valid Illinois FOID card and concealed carry license. The two turned themselves into police on Wednesday, where they were placed under arrest and charged.

Imagine the narrative if a Black man beat a White woman in a restaurant and White boy shot him.
