Nearly 1.2 million Hondas are being recalled due to rearview camera images not appearing on the dashboard.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the recall includes Pilot SUVs manufactured from 2019 to 2022 as well as Passport SUVs manufactured from 2019 to 2023.
Additionally, it includes a few Odyssey minivans from 2018 to 2023.
Honda said in a recall statement on Friday that connectivity issues between rearview camera images and dashboard displays were caused by an “improperly manufactured” coaxial cable connector.
“If the [Media Oriented Systems Transport] communication is lost for more than 20 seconds, the rearview camera function will fail when the vehicle is in the reverse gear, increasing the risk of a crash or injury,” Honda said in the recall notice.
The car manufacturer announced that dealers will install a straightening cover over the vehicle cable connector and replace the wire harness at no cost to customers.
Owners of vehicles who have previously paid for repairs are eligible for reimbursement.
According to NHTSA, Honda’s numbers for the recall are EEL and ZEM. Customers can also reach out to Honda’s customer service line at 1-888-234-2138.
