MSCHF, the creative collective known for its outrageous stunts like the Big Red Boot and Lil Nas X’s blood-infused sneakers, just pulled off its latest antic. They just auctioned off a microscopic handbag for nearly $64,000.
Modeled after Louis Vuitton’s OnTheGo tote bag, the electric green ‘purse’ measures 657 by 222 by 700 micrometers, making it smaller than a grain of salt. The micro-bag went up for auction last week on Pharrell’s JOOPITER platform, and the bidding war ended on Tuesday with a head-scratching final price of $63,750.
Before the auction, Kevin Wiesner, MSCHF’s chief creative officer, spilled the tea to the New York Times. Apparently, the whole idea behind this microscopic masterpiece stemmed from their observation that luxury handbags are shrinking in size over time. So, they said, ‘bet’ and took it a-whole-nother level.
The owner of the mini-bag remains unknown at the time, but it’s truly giving: ‘If I don’t know what to do with my money was a person.’
Hopefully, they plan to keep it as a collector’s item ’cause it doesn’t seem practical enough to carry around.
