Bose has issued a recall for hundreds of thousands of bass speakers in the United States due to reports of numerous incidents.
On Thursday, the announcement from the Consumer Product Safety Commission highlighted the risk of a potential fire hazard prompts the recall of 884,000 bass modules. The malfunction results from potential electrical component failures within the speakers.
According to the CPSC notice, the speakers were created in 1994 and had a 13-year span until April 2006. The company became aware of a total of 21 incidents involving fires or melting, none of which resulted in any injuries. In three of these instances, the fires caused damage to carpeting, an entertainment cabinet, and the surrounding materials near the bass box.
The notice also advised against continuing to use the speakers and recommended disconnecting them from their power source. Nevertheless, customers who possess the speakers have two choices when it comes to the recall, they can opt for free repairs or exchange the speakers for a Bose Soundbar at a 40% discount.
To determine the affected products, owners can examine the product name, serial number, and date code displayed on the label attached to the speaker. The date codes, included within the serial number, differ based on the specific speaker system associated with the recalled bass modules. While some date codes apply to all speaker systems, others pertain only to a specific range.
